To induce muscle contractions, the neurotransmitter acetylcholine (ACh) travels through the parasympathetic nervous system to the muscle synapses at the motor endplates to "command" the muscle to contract.

This gives the skin a chance to completely smooth out! This inhibition of muscle contraction reduces / avoids facial wrinkles.
